What are you
giving life to?
Scientists tell us that
everything, visible and
invisible, is energy. This energy permeates the Universe. We can
clearly see this in our physical world where everything has a molecular
structure of basic elements.
The closer we come to
understanding the Universe, the better we understand its oneness. The energy
that permeates the Universe is called "Substance." It is the
foundation of all existing things. It contains the seeds, ideas, wisdom and
intelligence that inspire and stimulate us to think, desire, dream, have faith
and make things happen.
All things are created from and
are comprised of this Substance. This energy works in and through the
minds of human beings. When we ask for ideas, we receive the wisdom,
understanding and inspiration we want. As we imagine and picture our goals and
desires, we mold the Substance of the Universe to that thing we have chosen.
Our thoughts, beliefs, words
and actions mold the invisible Substance into its visible form. The invisible
Substance or energy molds itself to our choices and beliefs, and then presents
itself into our visible world.
One of the first things you
learn in Metaphysics is that we are life-giving, spiritual beings. You
give life by thinking, feeling and believing. You give life
knowingly and unknowingly. You become the qualities you give life
to.
You give life to praise and
appreciation. You give life by condemnation and criticism. Even
unwelcome conditions would not have come about if life had not been given to
them. Whatever you think and feel strongly about, believe in and react to is
what receives life.
It can be something you want,
just as well as something you don't want. Fear gives life to and strengthens
that which you fear. Hatred gives life to and strengthens the nature of the
person or character of the thing hated. Anger gives life to and strengthens the
individual to whom you direct your anger.
When you give life through
love, praise, appreciation and happy attitudes, you reap a harvest of blessings.
When you give life through anger, worry and criticism, you reap a harvest of
misery.
Even more importantly,
by giving life to the negative
qualities in another person or situation through criticism,
anger or condemnation, those
qualities are strengthened in them. You also strengthen those
qualities within yourself.
Just as love inevitably gives
life to and strengthens warm, tender experiences, praise gives life to and
strengthens goodness and beauty. Joy gives life to and attracts happy events.
All the positive traits give life to exhilarating experiences.
Desires are God given. When you
have a desire, it means that the God within you has given you an idea for
greater expression. It is your responsibility to give the energy of life to that
idea. It is very simple. The more life given to an idea, the more quickly you
receive results.
What is life? The dictionary
informs us that it is vigor, liveliness, animation and vivacity. It is the
property of plants and animals that allow them to take in food, grow, reproduce
and adapt themselves to their surroundings.
A seed without the proper
conditions of life remains dormant. The marriage unnourished with life loses it
magic. A body without life withers. A mind without life loses its capacity to
think. A heart without life has no feeling. A talent without life grows rusty.
Conversely, whatever you give
life to becomes vigorous. It is enhanced with animation. It flourishes and
grows. What you give life to reproduces itself and gives life to new seeds.
Whatever you give your attention to thrives.
When you know how energy lives,
you have no excuse for not having everything you want. You have no excuse for
not being happy.
Whatever you give life to is
manifested in our world. If there is something you would rather not have, you
can stop giving it energy by taking your mind off of it. You give life to
anything you choose.
I once knew a man who
intellectually understood this principle, but had not been able to see the
results. Jim was consistent and diligent in recognizing and becoming aware of
the seeds God planted in his mind. However, his harvest was small.
One night while attending a
goal-setting class, Jim heard the teacher say, "All the knowledge in the
world does not bring results unless you give your seeds energy." He began to
give life to the seeds of his desires through prayer treatment, affirmation and
meditation.
One of the seeds God had
planted in Jim was a strong desire for companionship. This man began to meditate
on loving relations, compatibility and harmony. He affirmed for someone who
would share his spiritual interests, hobbies, interest in sports and love of his
home.
Shortly afterward, the seeds
began to germinate and grow. Jim became surrounded with life-minded people and
all of his relationships were harmonized with love. He also gave life to the
idea of a loving, permanent relationship.
Someone very special soon
appeared in the world. She loved sports, enjoyed the same hobbies and was ready
for a new and wonderful relationship. They were married shortly after they met.
They made a commitment that
each would give a daily prayer for the marriage made in heaven and filled with
love. It was a marriage that outpoured joy and dedicated to appreciation. That
was 14 years ago. They are still enjoying the excitement they knew on the day
they were married.
Knowing what to do isn't
enough. There are many people who claim to know all about the
spiritual laws that would make their lives more productive and happy, yet they
have not learned to put into practice the application that makes the actual
change.
There was a woman who regularly
studied, read and attended lectures and classes on Metaphysics. Although Wanda
could tell you all of the methods and techniques for making improvements in her
life, her life was in shambles. There were problems with her children, husband
and coworkers. She was in a constant state of crisis.
When Wanda received suggestions
from a counselor for specific affirmations, she would say, "I have already tried
that and it didn't work." Wanda always had an excuse for not having the harmony
she craved.
Finally the counselor told her,
"Stop trying and do
it." This shocked Wanda so much that she angrily got up and
left. The next day she came back very contritely and said, "At first I was
outraged. Then I began to really think. Finally I sat down and meditated on the
words 'reveal the truth to me.' I discovered many things about myself."
This woman had studied how to
improve her life for many years, but had never taken the time to do it. It was
always something to do tomorrow. Now it was time to practice what she
intellectually knew. Several times a day Wanda took a few minutes out of her
busy schedule and began to affirm, praise and appreciate.
The results were immediate.
Miracles began to happen in her home, family and bank account. Every area of her
life improved.
She gave energy to what she
wanted and took energy off the things she did not want. She dedicated her life
to living by choice and giving energy to happy, loving, kind and generous
thoughts. The Universe began to pour its blessings upon her. Her cup was soon
filled and overflowing.
Anything must be used
consistently for it to work. Directing your mind consistently into positive
channels will prevent the events you do not wish and bring the joyous
experiences you desire.
Determination becomes easy when
you realize that all change first occurs in your inner self and then in your
outer world. Choose now.
Use your God-given mind to
establish a choice. Choose peace, love, harmony, health and success. Then use
the power of your thought, word and action to transform your world into the
beauty that you desire.
Be consistent. Only
permanent use brings about permanent change. Stop giving energy to the things you
do not want. Give that energy to something you desire and
achieve a result that will bring blessings to you.
You make the choice.
To grow spiritually is to choose
deliberately with awareness. Everything you are experiencing now
is your report card. Your experiences are telling you what you have given life
to in the past.
A daily discipline of giving
life to love in your relationships, health in your body, success in your work,
wealth in your bank accounts, wisdom in your mind and happiness in every part of
your world will work miracles.
